Production of high quality seed potato using mini tubers in
collaboration with farmer groups

AgCo is a well established cooperative society in Nuwara Eliya and have the capacity to collaborate in the national seed potato production programme of the Dept. of Agriculture. Further some of the members of this society have already involved in the seed production programme carried out by PRS, Sita Eliya.

Goals of the project:

Contribute to produce high quality seed potato locally  involving members of the society.

Objectives of the project:

• Production of high quality seed potato

• Supply of seed potato at low price at low cost

• Reducing cost of production of consumption potato

Project outcome:

• Increasing the production and supply of high quality seed potato

• Providing AgCO as a market access to farmers for seed potato requirements.

• Supply of seed potato for Nuwara Eliya farmers for the main season.

Method:

DOA technology for FG1 FG2 & FG3 production, Seed storage and sprouting, will be used.Quality standards will be maintained involving SCS    standards.

Beneficiaries of the project:

Baddulla district and NUwara Eliya district Potato farmers.
